Suzani quilts

'A story in every print'.

With a blockprint item you not only bring something beautiful into your home, but you also support local craftsmen and age-old traditions. Each product tells a story of culture, creativity and pure handicraft straight from India, especially for you.

'Tradition, colour and craftsmanship in every stitch'

Suzani is more than just beautiful embroidery, it is a living piece of culture. Originally from Central Asia, Suzani is an ancient embroidery tradition characterized by rich patterns, symbolic motifs and an explosion of color. Each piece is embroidered by hand, often by women who have passed down their techniques from generation to generation.

The name Suzani comes from the Persian word “suzan”, which means “needle”, a nod to the fine and intensive handwork that goes into it. The fabrics are often used as wall hangings, bedspreads, or as with us, processed into unique jackets and home items. No two pieces are the same, because every embroidery tells its own story.

How is Suzani made?

'A time-consuming process full of tradition'

The design and drawing of the pattern
A pattern is sketched by hand on a large piece of cotton or silk. The motifs such as flowers, tendrils, suns or pomegranates often have a symbolic meaning, from prosperity to protection.

Embroidery by hand
The design is then embroidered by hand using silk or cotton thread in vibrant colours. This is usually done using the chain stitch, but sometimes also using the flat stitch or satin stitch. The embroidery can take weeks or even months, depending on the size and complexity of the design.

Composing the piece
Large Suzanis are often embroidered in parts and later sewn together you can sometimes still see the subtle seams, which contributes to the authentic character. Then the piece is finished and sometimes lined or processed into clothing or decoration.

Process into jackets, rugs or accessories
We carefully transform our Suzani fabrics into unique jackets, dresses and other items, each handmade, each one of a kind.
